Chess in Concert
May 28 - Jun. 3, 2017
Michael Hirsch appearing in the role of Walter.
The creators of Chess are giants of rock music and rock musicals, and Time Magazine called their collaboration on this dynamic show “one of the best rock scores ever produced.” Here the ancient game becomes a metaphor for romantic rivalries, human competition, power politics, and international intrigue. The pawns in this drama form a love triangle: the loutish American chess star, the earnest Russian champion, and the Hungarian-American female assistant who arrives at the international chess match with the American but falls for the Russian. From Bangkok to Budapest, the players, lovers, politicians, and spies pulse to a monumental score that includes "One Night in Bangkok" and "Heaven Help My Heart." Presented in concert with orchestra.
